Whenever a particular genre of music, in this case emo, becomes popular, there is always an influx of bands that sound the same. Inevitably, these artists become predictably interchangeable. Gatsby's American Dream; however, is able to break free from the mold. Not only do they avoid using hooks and choruses in their songs, but their lyrics and musicianship push them to the forefront of the indie movement. Taking inspiration from literature (i.e. The Great Gatsby, Animal Farm) the band proves that you can take a worn out genre, inject some intellect and actually create something unique.
