This album is a good bet for any fans of softer Yo La Tengo or old Beulah. There isn't a bad track in the bunch, though there also isn't anything that really stands out, and the songwriting doesn't ever manage to lift things past the point of just being pleasant. That said, Music For Places is a soft little record that sounds unique, despite the transparent vocals and rather straightforward compositions of mostly brushed drums, Rhodes, and acoustic with a slight hint of trumpet. There isn't much else I'd rather be inside with on a rainy day.
