It doesn’t happen very often (or often enough, for my taste), but occasionally something comes up that challenges my beliefs and inspires me to spend half a day drafting an opinionated response. One of those somethings came up this morning, when Google Alerts sent me a link to an anarcho-punk messageboard where people were bashing EIY for being pro-Capitalist (which in some ways is true, and in some ways is not), and then plotting ways to sabotage the website, and me personally. It felt like Christmas morning, and I jumped out of bed and hurried to make my coffee so that I could spend the day writing my reply. It’s not about being right, but about having the chance to write down the things I believe in a coherent essay, as a way to check myself and what I stand for. I think everyone should be checking themselves on a regular basis, in preparation for the day when their beliefs are challenged by the opposition. Know your philosophy!

this is both awesome and awesomely sad at the same time. Sad because these people are clearly not getting the point of EIY…but awesome because you made it to the google alerts page and free advertising is never a bad thing!
